The one exception that I know to that is for Apple Pay. Apple Pay requires real card details but you will not be charged for test mode charges.

Hm, in this case it seems like the payment wasn't rejected. I agree with your suggestion though, unfortunately in this case a test invoice was sent to a client in error.

I'm just trying to figure out if we should be trying to refund the client or if it's a non-issue since it was done in the test environment

Yep that card was not charged.

Also that may have been one of our test cards judging on the last four digits.
