Hi! If you are using Checkout Session or Payment Element, the mandate is automatically collected for you.
https://stripe.com/docs/payments/sepa-debit/accept-a-payment?platform=checkout
How? Does customer has to verify via phone number, bank, email or something?
What happens if I just enter someone else's IBAN into the field? Will transaction go through?
As mentioned on the page you linked earlier:
Customer provides full name, IBAN, and authorizes mandate
So I don't see a verification by phone or email.
So technically someone could easily authorize someone else's bank account. In my country business IBANS and their names, addresses, etc are public.
Yes that could be possible yes.
But note that:
Customers can dispute a payment through their bank on a “no questions asked” basis up to eight weeks after their account is debited. Any disputes within this period are automatically honored.
