Hi there! There is no limit on the amount of Connect Accounts. In terms of onboarding, it depends on what type of Connected Accounts you use. Have you taken a look at https://stripe.com/docs/connect/accounts? Finally, not sure what taxes you are specifically referring to, but we only support handling taxes for Connect for US accounts (see the 1099 capabilities).
Here is the info on US Tax reporting for you to take a look at: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/tax-reporting
Can you explain the sentence: "If you’re not covered by these scenarios, create a platform account in that same region and onboard accounts to that account. Depending on your business structure, this might require creating a legal entity in that region and additional work to onboard users to the new platform account."
And also; "Alternatively, you can facilitate international payouts by using the card_payments capability to make charges directly on the connected account."
Sure for the first part there only certain funds flows can be used based on the country location of your platform vs. your Connected Accounts
You can see the 3 types of funds flows here: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/charges
Learn how to create a charge and split payments between your platform and your sellers or service providers when you accept payments.
If you are using Destination Charges or Separate Charges & Transfers without passing on_behalf_of then you must have your Connected Accounts located in the same region as your platform, unless you are a US platform and use cross-border payouts which is referenced in the screenshot above.
And the second part is referring to Direct charges?
Yes Direct Charges, or using on_behalf_of which changes your Connected Account into the Merchant of Record and requires that they have the card_payments capability
but then using on_behalf_of means the payment is sent directly to employees correct?
Depends on whether you use Destination Charges or Separate Charges and Transfers
Destination Charges create a transfer immediately. SC&T as its name implies allows you to create the transfer later on.
okay okay okay i think im starting to understand, sorry for my stupidity. But if my platform is stationed in Canada, and my employee is stationed in Brazil. They can use an 'Express Connect Account' to accept 'Destination Charges or Separate Charges and Transfers' from us in their currency.
No stupidity at all! This stuff is pretty complex to figure out exactly what you need!
If your platform is in CA and your Connected Accounts are not in CA then you would have to use on_behalf_of if you want to use Destination or Separate Charges and Transfers.
Otherwise you will hit an error since we can't transfer funds cross border like that.
Take a look at this section which discusses on_behalf_of: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/destination-charges#settlement-merchant
