Thanks Karbi, so we currently use the Charges API and our account is US based. We just saw a failure due 'authentication required'. Any idea why we would see this for a US based account using Charges API?
Hi @gentle compass , is this the right place to ask about this?
So sorry - I missed your follow-up question!
Your account is US-based, but do you accept payments from customers not based in the US?
Yes
I have an incident with a cardholder in Chile.
Their card declined due to 'authentication required'
But we were told by stripe that both, the merchant account and user have to be in EU for that to happen.
So wondering if there were any rule changes recently.
"For online card payments, these requirements apply to transactions where both the business and the cardholder’s bank are located in the European Economic Area (EEA)."
I can see how that doc could be confusing, but this one (https://stripe.com/docs/strong-customer-authentication#impacted-businesses) should make it more clear - if you have plan to serve customers from EEA then you need to be SCA-compliant
