Okay can you provide exact details on the browsers and OS version #? I'll need to check to see if there are any reported bugs.
Additionally does the Element actually eventually load?
What sorts of errors show up in the console?
Here's a screenshot of one user's OS version. The browser version I will have to check, but they told us they had automatic updates on both, so I'd trust they were the latest or near to the latest.
The Elements component does not load once we see the error.
No console errors show. No network errors show. No errors hit our back end servers. Nothing is sent to Sentry (our error logger).
So nothing in the browser console shows at all?
Nothing at all.
And for what it's worth, I personally tried to get this to a point to where I could say it is Stripe-related before I reached out. It's so, so strange. I've never encountered anything like it.
And all users are on windows machines?
yup
Windows 11
ONLY Chrome or Edge
doesn't happen on firefox we've found out
we've also turned off chrome extensions, and still see it. so it's something beyond the browser at work it seems.
Fun
haha true that
it will be great if we can solve haha
a good story to tell. because it's so nuts.
to note, we're setting up a VM with Windows 11 with chrome/edge, did not see the error. so now we're trying to install McAffee AV
Inside the VM?
but to put in perspective of priority, we have campgrounds on our app. today, first day for one park, they said they had 15 campers complain about this
we could NOT replicate the error in the virtual machine
Okay, that's interesting.
Elements makes use of iFrames to render. I know iFrames caused security headaches in some browsers 10 years ago but I thought those days were behind us.
yup, same thought i had
Is it possible to get any screen capture or image of the actual problem?
hmm, i had a video but it was huge
in terms of size
we can def replicate it in our app, but lemme see if i can find something
i don't see anything, and since it's after 6pm, i'll have to wait until tomorrow to get one from anyone.
but what it does is show our normal loaders when the page is attempting to render
then stops completely
then the entire window (including all tabs, url bar, etc) goes white, then after like 45 secs, it goes black, then white, and back and forth
This sounds like it could. be a significant issue and not something we can easily troubleshoot from here (sorry). If it's late I recommend writing in to Support with as much detail and code snippets as you can. They've also got tooling to upload files/video.
like a legit full browser glitch. i'd think it was like a recurring loop or something if i didn't know better. that's the only thing i've ever seen destroy a browser like this
gotcha
kk my stripe rep sent me here, but i'm happy to reach out to somewhat else
Mention my screen name and I can make sure it is escalated faster
perfect. what's the best email to reach out to?
perfect
is there a link to this convo for reference? or should i just mention "Snufkin"?
You can just mention Snufkin, I've got a filter set up for it ๐
kk perfect. thanks for the help
I'm hoping we'll have a better reason for you to say thanks soon ๐ค
thanks for the help tho. Glad we're at least getting to a point we can have more people debug. this has been a super headache for us
And based on the glitchy behavior, any/all code snippets will be extremely useful. We'll want to get a reproduction of your site up and running.
