Unfortunately there isn't really a way to streamline this process further - standard accounts have access to a full dashboard and can be used on their own, meaning that we need to collect more information for them.
As for why tax IDs are needed, that really depends on a number of factors like your country, account type, capabilities, etc.
Every time we've run through account signup, I have had to put in a tax id
it accepts SSNs which is counter intuitive to me. I've also been putting SSNs in the business update.
Why do you require business name, type, address etc? None of this is necessary

There isn't really any way out of these requirements - there are reasons (regulations, legal requirements, etc) for collecting all this information for standard accounts. If you don't want to be collecting all this information, then you should look into express or custom accounts
