If you need 3DS on the card payment you now have to go back client-side to do it, which is a pain to build
also some payment methods can't be created upfront, so when you want to accept non card payments, like Klarna, the flow you have in mind won't work

with the PaymentElement, we do all of this automatically for you so the way we document it is way easier (though it seems harder on first read I agree)

Gotcha! So expanding from CardElement to PaymentElement would be trivial if I implemented it the documented way?
