ok thanks. is it important to do this? is there any danger of letting them exist in the incomplete state forever?
i'm assuming there wouldn't be any way for the customer to "complete" the payment without my knowing it?

What kind of integration do you have?
Subscriptions, one time payments, etc.
Also are you using Checkout, ELements, Payment Links, etc.?

i'm not sure what the answer is to the other question. i'm the server developer.
i know that the web application sends me payment method IDs
which I use to create payment intents
we also store payment methods
in any case, i won't worry about the incomplete items
