do you have an example sub_xxx Subscription that you updated this way and went to past_due so I can have a look?
But yeah overall unfortunately a lot of the state machines for subscriptions were designed with cards in mind and don't work so well for bank debits that take a few days to clear, so I think this is expected behaviour, but I'd like to look at your example first
