Sorry for the delay! Like you said, the four choices are most recent, most recent ever, max, and sum. So there's no "average".
To achieve what you described, you'll need to handle that logic on your end. For example you could set "aggregate_usage" to "most recent", and then compute the average for the period on your end.

Just to be sure, there is no other way to generate an invoice at the END of a billing period than using metered billing ?
