I created a trial subscription to see what happens when a payment fails on a subscription renewal
The following events were called, announcing that the invoice payment had failed
I have configured it in the dashboard so that it does not repeat the payment attempt and cancel the subscription
Shouldn't it have triggered the unsubscribe event?
How long does it take for the customer.subscription.deleted event to be sent by the stripe?
Can you share the subscription ID for the example you used?

Still looking at this btw - the invoice seems to correctly not be doing any retries, but the subscription is past_due rather than cancelled

I'm still investigating -- I'm not sure why it didnt do that, yet
Can you try this again, but instead of using trial_end=now can you use a time stamp a little bit in the future? eg trial_end= 1642025139
you cna set this just a minute or so in the future, but then you may need to wait ~1hr for the invoice to finalize and fail payment
