Hello, yes your flow does make sense. Here are a couple of concern:
- There are 3 Connected Account types (Standard/Express/Custom) Have you completely decided to use Standard? If yes then you are correct to use Direct Charge
- With Standard and Direct Charge, I am afraid Stripe Checkout is not supported natively. You would want to enter a beta program to make them work together
Early access beta: Join our beta program to enable new payment methods for your connected accounts. If you’re a Standard platform using direct charges coupled with Checkout or our new Payment Element, then contact us to learn more.
I've decided to use direct payments because it does what I need it to (money from one person to another + platform fee + metadata) and it reduces costs and load on my end. Is there a better way to do checkouts for direct payment?
If you do Destination Charge (and Express/Custom Account), then you can use Stripe Checkout right away
okay, so the reason my test account won't work is because checkout doesn't natively support standard accounts direct payment?
yes
Also for making my test account I onboarded myself using my own email, is that fine
I would recommend to use a different email. If you use gmail, use can use the + pattern
for example you have something@gmail.com, you can use an email like something+express@gmail.com for onboard your Connected Account
