...but when i put that code into the checkout session i get "this code is invalid"

i'm in the same environment (test mode) for the same account, but it's not registering for whatever reason

In Checkout you are not allowed to use promotion codes that bring the total amount to below the minimum charge amount

#

So there's no way for you to give 100% off with a promo code in checkout

No, if you wanted to do this you'd have to switch off Checkout entirely
