The reason we need the paymentMethod.id is that we are doing payment by installments so we need to be able to charge the paymentMethod again in the future.

Sure, this is expected to work roughly the same way as I understand it. I'd suggest follow the guides to try it out! And you can ask us for help if you encounter issues.
