@grim thicket various reasons. Off the top of my head :
- you are liable for refunds and chargebacks as the platform, but you can't use AccountDebits on Standard accounts or do a Transfer reversal if it would give them a negative balance
- Standard accounts can disconnect themselves from your platform using their dashboard, leaving you with a problem or a negative balance
- the Standard account holder can't see any details of the customer or the actual payment themselves on their own dashboard so they rely on your for everything
Okay thanks for the information, going to do some research on charge types and get back to you
We'd like the keep the stripe fee on our side, so direct charges don't work for us. I think the options from our side moving forward, would either be moving to standard accounts with separate charges and transfers, or migrating the standard accounts to express accounts.
Are there any issues with standard accounts and separate charges and transfers that you can think of?
yes it's exactly the same problems as Destination described above
I guess I'm missing why Destination+Express is not an option. But in general yes, any form of platform-owned payment (Destination, or SC&T) is not recommended for Standard accounts. It's not technically blocked so if you are comfortable with understanding the implications you can technically use, we just heavily discourage it.
Moving to express accounts is absolutely possible from our side. We've explored it in the past, It'd just be tricky to move migrate the existing 100+ standard accounts to express accounts. Do you have any advice here?
Also is there a article somewhere detailing all the different issues with non-direct charges on standard accounts I can use as a reference?
we don't have any specific advice for migrating from Standard to Express that I'm aware of(it's mainly making sure you understand what is and is not available through the Express dashboard so you know what you need to provide to the account holder that they might already use on their Standard account)
and no we don't have a public doc on the problems, our docs just tell you to use our recommended flows
I see, I'll make sure to look more into the implications of a migration to express accounts.
If you could let me know of any more implications of non-direct charges on standard accounts, that would be useful so we can figure out how high a priority it will be to move to express accounts
