Okay, so you created the Payment Method, and at that time the CVC showed unchecked because just creating a Payment Method doesn't cause the CVC to be verified.

Then you attached the Payment Method to a Customer which validated the card, but we didn't check the CVC as part of that validation.

Then you created a Subscription, we attempted to charge the card, that's when the CVC was checked and discovered to be incorrect.

It sounds like the point when you're seeing the unchecked status is prior to us actually checking the CVC.

No.

I'm not sure what you mean. The payment for the Subscription was declined as expected due to the failed CVC check, right? Can you provide more details?

So the sub was still created but with a status of "incomplete". So because CVC is not checked on PM creation and sub was still created, I don't have a way to know what the reason is.

Would I just retrieve the card to see if it was a card issue? I'm assuming it would tell me then that the CVC check was failed

You can see the reason for the payment failure by examining the Payment Intent associated with the Invoice generated by the Subscription.
