Hello! With Express connected account holders should only see the Express Dashboard which is quite limited and cannot be used to charge customers. Are you sure you're not using Standard accounts?

I created them through the dashboard and code as both express accounts and they come up with everything available

#

Let me try one more time

Wait, when you say "they come up with everything available" what do you mean exactly? Are you actually generating an Express Dashboard link and opening that, or are you looking at them via your platform account in the full Stripe Dashboard?

I used the button in the dashboard to login as the express account

#

so maybe that is different

rare shuttle
#

Ah, yes, that's very different.

#

That's you viewing your full Stripe Dashboard as that account. You get the full Dashboard because you're the platform and can perform way more operations than the account holder themselves can.

#

The Express account holder will see a completely different, very limited Express Dashboard.

Oh okay. How does the account holder log in then? I didnt see anything in the docs about it

Ok perfect, just tried it

One last question

#

In the onboarding flow, the user can enter a website or a product description

#

Since they can't sell with this account, the product description alternative really shouldn't be there and is confusing

#

The website probably should be optional as well since not every individual will have one

The description still applies; basically it's asking why the Express account is getting paid. They must be providing some kind of product or service in order to receive funds, right?

In this case they will be doing affiliate marketing and get a commission for referrals. The plan is to ask how they will promote our product before the stripe flow. This question's phrasing doesn't really work since they aren't offering any products. The "when do you charge your customers" part especially (e.g. they are a YouTuber who makes videos related to our product). Thats why I was hoping the "recipient" mode would remove any references related to being a seller

The description says "tell us what product or services you provide" and it sounds like the service they provide would be "referrals" if I understand correctly?

plush coral
#

Yes, but every express account would be for the purpose of "referrals". The user will be confused by this question since there is no alternative they could provide, they expect us to already know that. (We are only using Connect for this purpose). Nevertheless it says ", and when you charge your customers" which doesn't make sense because they don't have customers or charge anyone

Right, you already know that, but Stripe doesn't. We need to know somehow, and for Express the account holder has a direct relationship with Stripe as well as you, so we need the account holder to tell us themselves.

Is there any more info on the recipient mode? Because it sounds like exactly what I need: "A recipient service agreement clarifies that there is no service relationship between Stripe and the recipient"

The message you're seeing needs to be generic enough to cover all possible Express use cases, which is why it reads the way it does.

Ok I will. Thank you for the help with the dashboard

No problem! 🙂

FWIW I tried creating an express account in Canada and it allowed me to use the recipient mode, and skipped the product description/website step. Hopefully support can figure out why it's not working in the US
