Have you tried this in test mode to see what the behaviour is? I wouldn't expect the invoice to be able to fail a payment without a payment method attached

I did not, I'd like to save time if possible. Can you tell if and how the webhook will be fired when a trial end date is reached while the customer has no credit card ? Thanks

I just created a test mode sub for a new customer with no payment methods, so will know shortly

So after the trial will end event, when the trial ends you'll get the customer.subscription.updated event to indicate the subscription went from trialing to active, along with the invoice.created event for the draft invoice for the paid period

but there is not going to be a payment method for that invoice when it finalizes after 1hr

Which leaves the invoice open & unattempted until a payment method is provided
