Then yes, by default you must use a redirect to Checkout since there are extremely strict requirements for how the debit mandate is shown to the customer and debit notification emails, which Checkout abstracts for most merchants interested in using that payment method.
It is possible to use Elements instead and embed the payment form in your own site(with appropriate mandate display) but it's a private feature your Stripe account needs access to and I think has an extra fee. https://support.stripe.com/email can help! (mention that you use BACS and you want to build your own payment collection page without Checkout).
