We are currently planning to send the confirmation email ourselves. Didn't realize we can send it via Stripe?
Does it matter?
If you're sending the confirmation email yourselves you could set your own "orderID" in the metadata of the Subscription, and then pull that whenever you want to display it to the user.
We are planning to use Stripe's customer portal as well. Could that be switched to this new orderID that we define?
No, unfortunately that one wouldn't be something that you can control
Similarly can we use this to look up orders for our own staff when using the stripe dashboard?
Yes, the dashboard is able to search metadata so it should work!
One other question - can Stripe send out a confirmation email every time the subscription is renewed? If so, where do I configure that? Thx!
Yep! There are various email settings for Subscriptions here: https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/billing/automatic
