@still tree I don't think it works that way really, the balance section doesn't really show 'pending' balances, it's more about payouts. I don't completely understand it myself!

You can use https://stripe.com/docs/api/balance/balance_retrieve and look at your pending balance that way.

so when i make a test payment, i'm not paying to a "test version of my own account"

well you're paying to your own account but in test mode, not sure how to describe it.

your account has a live and a test mode but they're basically separate in most ways

right, but when making test payments i won't see my balance increase, is that what you're saying?

you will, your test mode pending balance increases , as can be seen by calling https://stripe.com/docs/api/balance/balance_retrieve with a test mode API key
