You can not pass this parameter with your integration. You use the (deprecated) Client-only Checkout integration and it only supports a small number of features. Otherwise, even if you didn't want to support promotion codes anyone could pass that parameter client-side

you need to integrate Checkout server-side instead where you control the creation of the session safely

Both server-side and client-side Checkout are secure; I don't think one is more or less secure than the other in a general sense.
