that method is what puts the reader in the mode to be ready to read a card, so not sure what you mean. it wouldnt read anything without that.

well so I guess that's my answer. basically, I'm trying to cut down on the number of steps that a cashier has to take to complete a checkout

you could have your ui trigger that automatically at the right stage of the flow, up to you

right. but when it's called the order summary disappears and it just lists the total. any way around that?

not that i'm aware of no, the reader ui is needed to direct the cardholder with instructions
