custom requests looks great! Exactly what I'm looking for

I'm not sure if pipenv supports multiple versions of one library, but that's probably an out of scope question for this channel anyways

pip wouldn't I think, you'd have to make 2 separate projects/code maybe. But custom requests is likely good enough for the temporary state

You could even do the opposite: upgrade to the latest SDK but use custom request to keep using UsageRecord with the older API version for now
