My app doesn't have access to use it,
Could i check what do you mean that your app does not have access to it?
Were you able to set the permissions (android.permission.BLUETOOTH_CONNECT, android.permission.BLUETOOTH_SCAN) in your app's manifest?
https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/features/apps-on-devices/overview#android-permissions
We mention here in our docs that the device will not show a permission prompt, and that the permissions are verified against this list
The device user isn’t prompted for permission approval at runtime. Your app’s permissions are verified against the allowed permissions list, and apps requesting permissions in excess of the allowlist are rejected.
Yes, the permissions are declared in the manifest.
Hmmm, and the permissions are still getting resolved to “Never ask again”?
Yes exactly.
Could you try to force a request for bluetooth permission in this case?
In the sample code for Android apps on devices, there is a retry logic implemented to check for denied permissions and request them. You can try converting this code into React Native. For reference, you can find the code here: MainActivity.kt.
Also, just a heads up, the bluetooth capabilities in SmartPOS devices like S700 are still in expermental phase, and havent been fully tested, validated, and approved by Stripe
Caution
The camera, Bluetooth, and location capabilities and APIs are still in the experimental phase and haven’t been fully tested, validated, and approved by Stripe. Their performance, reliability, and stability aren’t guaranteed. Use this functionality at your discretion.
Cool I will try this out, would I be able to comeback with the new development on this thread or open new one?
We typically close threads after an hour of inactivity. If you have a question after that time frame, you can open a new thread.
Hey @eager violet Just checked with my colleague, S700s dont allow Bluetooth access. These are the docs that show this: https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-reader#reader
So I am afraid that your App on the S700 wont be able to be establish a connection via Bluetooth
⛔️ Stripe developers have stepped away for a short while
Please leave your questions here, and we’ll respond as soon as we're back! If you need help urgently, you can contact Stripe support for help.
