Yes, this is expected behavior. The resend mechanism sends what was originally sent, so the metadata values would reflect what they were originally

I have to admit I find that strange as we've had this exact case earlier this week and it was solved by changing the metadata...
Is there a way around this restriction?

I don't believe so, but you should be able to make an additional request for the given object to get the updated information
