unfortunately promotion codes are not compatible with the PaymentIntent API, the easiest way would be to use Elements with Checkout Sessions https://docs.stripe.com/payments/quickstart-checkout-sessions

Use Stripe Elements and the Checkout Sessions API to manage checkout features such as tax calculations, discounts, and shipping rates on your custom web page.

the other possibility is to create an Invoice which accepts promotion codes
