Hey there this is because the coupon duration limits only the time when it can be applied to invoices, not the period of billing it applies to within an invoice.
ie, if the coupon is still active it will apply to the entire amount/period for all applicable items
If you're doing a "one month free" 100% coupon, this would need to be on a monthly price, not an annual price
then on the second month renewal the coupon would be disable and the invoice for the full amount would be generated
If you want to offer a "free month" within an annual price, you'd need to use different logic like 12.5% off or a fixed $ amount for the value of one month

One question: you suggest to set 12.5% off for 1 month free. Why not 100 / 12 = 8.33 % ?
