The context here is that I create a standard connected account through the API. And then I am attempting to create a tax registration for the connected account (again, through the API)

This has worked for all other states I have tried. But it throws an error for Oregon

I can see from a Google search that Oregon has no sales tax. But why is it throwing an error?

So will this happen for other states that do not collect sales tax? You can see from the image above that it says I can register for Oregon in live mode

I just tried adding a registration for Oregon in live mode for my own dashboard and it's not allowing me to do so. so I think the message from your test mode screenshot is just incorrect. I'll file internal feedback with the dashboard team about this

There are five US states without a statewide sales tax:
Alaska
Delaware
Montana
New Hampshire
Oregon

I'm attempting to find documentation to answer this question and have so far been unsuccessful. I suspect this varies by state, as Stripe's doc on Alaska mentions tax in local jurisdictions based on certain thresholds. however we're not experts on tax law in this channel, so if you want a firm answer on this question I would recommend reaching out to our main support channel https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true

you can file a ticket through that support link and you will be emailed as it is updated. tell the AI agent that you want to open a support case
