hi there!
hi
if you want to send money to creator, then you need to use Stripe Connect, and then need to have a Stripe Account (like Express).
but if you are using Seperate Charges & Transfer, you could first take the money on your own account, and only later transfer the funds to the connected account. which means you could create/onboard the connected account after the payment is made.
to learn more about Separate Charges & Transfers: https://docs.stripe.com/connect/separate-charges-and-transfers
Just to be sure I’m designing the right flow, can I confirm a few points with you?
our product (ASKIT):
Fans pay to ask short video questions to creators.
Today, asking a question is blocked if the creator hasn’t completed their Stripe Connect onboarding.
What we’d like to do instead is:
Let the fan pay immediately (even if the creator doesn’t have a Stripe account yet).
Hold the funds on our platform Stripe account.
Later, when the creator signs up and completes Stripe Connect onboarding, transfer the funds to their connected account.
Based on this, I have a few questions:
Charging before the creator has a Stripe account
With Separate Charges & Transfers, is it fully OK/compliant to create the PaymentIntent on our platform account, collect the money from the fan, and only create/onboard the connected account later (when/if the creator wants to cash out)?
From a compliance point of view, is Stripe comfortable with the following model:
“We (the platform) collect the payment now, and funds legally belong to us until the creator completes their KYC and we transfer the money to their connected account”?
Our platform is based in [France / EU] and creators can be in the EU or internationally.
If you can confirm that this flow is aligned with Stripe’s best practices (and flag anything risky / non-recommended), that would really help us implement it correctly.
seems like you are not asking a technical question here, but more a compliance question. and that's not something we can help on discord.
where i can join them ?
join who?
I mean the people at Stripe who handle this kind of compliance/flow questions.
Since you said it’s not something you can help with on Discord, where should I contact the right team?
you could try asking Stripe support: https://support.stripe.com/contact
