Hi 👋
Can you clarify exactly what Stripe products you are using and what emails you would like to trigger?
The automated customer emails features are specific to Billing (Invoices/Subscriptions) exscept for the receipt emails, which are general.

Hi Snufkin! Yes, we are using the Stripe Payment Element to collect payments from customers. We then create a customer session using the API. We also create our payment intents using the API. We do not use subscriptions or invoicing.
I wasn't clear if the settings in the dashboard were specific to subscriptions, or if we could use those settings for our scenario

Yeah, unfortunately those features are built for Billing. For instance, the failed payment email wiill include a link where the customer can update their payment method (e.g. provide a new card). While it's not obvious, this is the Customer Billing Portal and can only be used by Customers with Invoices/Subscriptions.
