hi there!
the doc for this card says:
After you set it up, off-session payments no longer require authentication. However, on-session payments with this card always require authentication.
so I guess it depends if you are making your subscription updates on session or off session

Stripe will try to pay the invoice yes. but it can fail for many reason, like insufisant funds, stolen card, expired card, etc.

user himself will try to upgrade as any normal scenario behave, so it should be on-session

got it. and if 3DS is requested, then you should let the user go though the 3DS flow to pay for the invoice.
