Hi, let me grab a teammate who knows more about Terminal. Hang tight
Cheers.
Hello, the two flows I can think of that may fit your bill are server-driven or apps on devices. With server-driven, your server can send a PI directly to the terminal without contacting your POS. With apps on devices you can create your own app that can reach out to Stripe itself (albeit this setup is more complex).
Thanks for the quick reply, we are thinking app on device might serve us better. Although in this flow - https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/features/apps-on-devices/overview#pos-consumer-app it looks like it would require us to integrate with the POS and your terminal. What we are looking for it a way to integrate with your Terminal, then Stripe handles the communication between the Terminal and the POS.
As ideally we are trying to implement a solution that does not rely on an specific POS. We would integrate directly with the Stripe Terminal and in an ideal world piggyback off the exiting integration between the Stripe Terminal and POS
I hope that makes sense
@wooden eagle
I am sorry but I am not quite grasping what you are looking for Stripe to do here. Can you maybe walk me through what a typical payment process would look like here and?
Apologies, im new to payment side of things, so my terminology may not be correct. For context we are a voucher/gift card platform. We have an android app that can redeem gift cards but its not currently integrated with anything. We are exploring with Stripe the possibility of installing our app on your terminal with the following customer journey in mind. The customer wants to pay for their bill, so the staff member brings the terminal to their table. The bill is lets say £100. The customer has a gift card for £50, so they open our app and validate the gift card etc (which we handle on our end) we then want that £50 to be added as a payment to the customers bill, effectively making the remaining balance £50 which can be paid by the customer via cash or credit/debit card as they see fit. What we are trying to avoid is 1. for us to have to integrate with the POS directly for example Oracle Simphony, Tevalis and the like. 2. If possible for the staff member to have to leave the customer to initiate a request for payment from the POS directly. Stripe in this scenario handles the comunication from terminal to POS. Our app communicates with the Terminal to say £50 can be added to the customer bill.
Can you tell me more about what specifically you mean when you say you want to avoid integrating with the POS? To me, integrating means writing code to interact with it, but that doesn't seem to line up with how you are talking about it. Stripe does not provide a POS software so you would need to integrate with the POS in some sense if you want it to be involved with this process.
Is the ask if there is some prebuilt POS system that works with apps on devices?
Right now if we want our clients to be able to redeem their customers gift cards from the POS we do a direct integration with that POS. That's fine but it is limited to the POS's we integrate with. If we do not integrate with the POS that client uses then they can only redeem manually. Let's say that our client has a POS we do not have a direct integration with but they use Stripe Terminals in their Shop. The assumption here is that in order for their POS to communicate with the Stripe Terminal an integration has already been completed by the POS provider to support Stripe Terminals. What we are exploring with the ability to install apps directly to a payment terminal like Stripes S700 is can we provide a solution that does not require us to integrate directly with the POS but to use existing integration between the POS and Stripe Terminals. We are developing this idea with DNA Payments too who have this capability. https://developer.dnapayments.com/docs/terminal-integration/axept-connect/solution-overview#direct-to-terminal-flow but want to also explore this with Stripe as we have a parthership agreement.
axept® Connect is a hosted web application which provides a RESTful API for integration. It acts as an intermediary between your Electronic Point of Sale system and the axept® PRO application running on your terminal estate.
Ah gotcha, sorry this server is for coding support so I was more focused on that aspect. Unfortunately I don't know much about our partnerships in that respect, so I would reccommend reaching out to our support to ask about that, they know more about partnerships and such. https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true
My question was more around the technical communication of your Stripe Terminal and POS rather than commercial, we already have commercial buy-in from Stripe. I appreciate you help, its probably that I am not technical in this regards to descrbe our intent. I have shared this Discord with our technical team so you will likely see a similar query from them next week. Many thanks. Steve
Sounds good, thanks for your time today!
