Hi, yes you'd get an insufficient error. You'd want to ensure you have enough funds in your account. Sandbox accounts should behave similarly so live accounts.

even if I have enough "incoming" funds to cover it right? the funds needs to be in the "available" category? It's somehow strange how it works in sandbox if it mimics the prod behaviour though

That is correct, the funds need to be settled.

in sandbox I did have a negative available balance but was able to create a transfer from my stripe account (with negative balance) to transfer money to a connected account

so we ended up resolving it by topping up the available balance. Thanks for the help !
