can you give an idea of how you'd like the billing experience for the customer to be instead?

Ideally when the customer upgrades, we'd be able to configure the billing portal to reset the billing cycle and tell the customer how much they'd be paying that day for the next year minus any proration for the time left on their current subscription.

If that's not an option, we'd like to let them know that they'll be paying for the upgrade, and then will receive a charge for the next year of services minus any time left on their subscription. It would be great if we could tell them this on the screen when they are completing their puchase.

yeah, unfortunately the billing portal does not allow for that level of configuration. for that level of information / configuration you may need to look into creating a page yourself to handle that
