For SDK 35 and later edge-to-edge display is automatically enabled, hence the overlap: https://developer.android.com/develop/ui/views/layout/edge-to-edge#enable-edge-to-edge-display

are you asking how to make the status bar not overlap over your application. even with edge-to-edge enabled?
