promotion_codes is not a valid property on that object. You'll need to use this endpoint instead, passing coupon param: https://docs.stripe.com/api/promotion_codes/list

I don't know what that means. There's no promotion_code property to even include/expand: https://docs.stripe.com/api/coupons/object

I have a question. Can coupon code be used to apply discount directly withiut the need to create promotion codes?
Yes
Promotion Codes are customer facing. If you, the merchant, are applying the discount then coupon is fine
If you want, but you can't restrict redemptions, etc
