no what you are describing is not possible.
you could store the company name as metadata on the Customer object
so you would still have access to it, even if Checkout Session overrides the name property.
but what would happen if you set customer_update[name] to never?
It throws this error upon the checkout creation:

got it. then yes I recommend using metadata to store the company name.
