hi there!

Hey! ๐Ÿ™‚

shut summit
#

you shared multiple requests, which one I should look at?

#

and can you clarify exactly what you were expecting to happen?

Check the first one please. I added two just to share more examples

Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm stepping in as my colleague has to go

civic geyser
#

The expected behavior would be to charge just for the extra unity, not for both.

Example: If a user creates a subscription with one quantity and a 100% coupon, when the addiitonal quantity is added, only that extra unit should be charged, but not both

#

Hey! ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks for jumping in

fading igloo
#

The first request is updating a Subscription, not a Sub Schedule. Can you share an example of a scheduled update?

#

And there are no discounts applied to that Subscription

civic geyser
#

The first request is updating a Subscription, not a Sub Schedule
Do we need to use sub schedules in this case?

fading igloo
#

I can't use dashboard links

civic geyser
#

Ah, sorry

fading igloo
#

You said when you "schedule" changes. If you are not using a Sub Schedule, how are you scheduling changes?

civic geyser
#

I think I expressed myself wrong there... I meant subscription change

When a user adds an extra member to their plan, we immediately change the subscription to add the extra user

fading igloo
#

Okay I'm confused. What kind of changes do what you expect them to?

#

Ah, I found the promo code and underlying coupon co_1ReeWNGdanZNGPvtdVlvvleT. It has applicability once so this will only apply to a single transactiono

civic geyser
#

So, current behavior:

If a user creates a subscription with a 100% coupon, they get 100% for free on the first month.
If that user adds an additional member to their team, when we change the subscription, this user is getting charged for both seats: The one we granted for free when the subscription was created and the newly added one.

The behavior we were expecting to see is that only the additional unit is charged, not both. In this case, the user should have been charged 288โ‚ฌ, and not 576โ‚ฌ.

fading igloo
#

And what changes are what you expect?

#

I'm also confused because the Coupon associated with the request you shared is for 25% off

civic geyser
#

And what changes are what you expect?
At the moment, the only thing that changes is the quantity in the subscription. The price and product remain the same

the request you shared is for 25% off
Please check request req_AsXH1LB8YlybAy

#

But the behavior is the same on both examples at the moment... When the subscription is changed, the discounted value is ignored on both subscriptions

fading igloo
#

The discounted amount is part of what is prorated. This is how Stripe currently calculates prorations and it's a commn cause of confusion for developers

#

We credit back the unused time at the lower quantity but, because the customer had a 100% off coupon applied, they get no discount

#

Then we calculate the % of the full billing period is left, the full price for the product, and the quantity and multiply them together to get the price we charge

civic geyser
#

I see ๐Ÿค”

#

Is there a way to flag to the API somehow that the discounted amount should be considered during proration?

fading igloo
#

Unfortunately not presently. This is something we are working on at present

civic geyser
#

I see... Now it makes sense to me why the customer is getting charged for both quantities

#

Thanks for the information. I'll check internally how we want to proceed

fading igloo
#

Yeah I think the way we calculate that math is pretty confusing. You could consider applying a 50% off coupon when making the upgrade.

civic geyser
#

The whole math does make sense to me ๐Ÿ˜… until now we didn't face any issues with proration with Stripe

#

If we could flag the discount as "paid amount" everything would be perfect haha

#

You could consider applying a 50% off coupon when making the upgrade.
Unfortunately we have different coupon discounts on production... Some are 50% off, some are 25%, etc

fading igloo
#

Yes I agree! Like I said, we are working on making this more flexible but it's not ready just yet

civic geyser
#

Most likely we'll make subscriptions "read-only" until the promo code expires

fading igloo
#

That makes sense

civic geyser
#

Or put a warning somewhere that the discount will be voided if changes are made

#

Thanks for the support! Have a good day ๐Ÿ™‚
