I don't think there's a way to do the "with info about the payment that failed" part sadly in the API

Do you know what the closest alternative would be? The payment method update flow doesn’t really provide much info to the user
/is there some way to suggest getting that flow added to the API😅

And for how to do something similar, I would have my admin panel where my customer can see they had a failed payment and click a button to be sent to the CustomerPortal to change/update their payment method details
