Ok, yes, it's possible to add subscription items to an existing subscription [0].

Thank you. I'm aware I can add subscription items to an existing subscritpion. My question is if a status of past_due in the subscription would still allow it

It should. The items will be added to the upcoming invoice.

It wont be added to any invoices that have been finalized.
