Custom Payment methods are very new and don't work with all of Stripe's payment surfaces, I'm sorry to say.
But I agree that requests this this one should still succeed since you aren't even charging a payment method!

Correct! Thank you for understanding what I'm asking about. I do agree that new Beta features shouldn't be affecting years-old subscriptions outside of custom payment sources.

To me, it would make sense if we were trying to charge the customer. I don't expect that work with Stripe Billing. But you aren't charging that payment method in this case.

That is correct. We are only trying to mark this invoice paid out-of-band. This customer has already been successfully charged, but our system is now blocked by Stripe to created an order and fulfillment for them until we can mark the Stripe::Invoice as paid.
