Hi, that should be independent from the collection method: https://docs.stripe.com/api/subscriptions/create#create_subscription-collection_method . If you pass this, regardless of that settings and email will be sent
In test mode, we do not send those emails: https://docs.stripe.com/testing-use-cases#test-email and you can see how you can test it there.

Okay, thanks. To clarify, if I create a subscription with a collection method of send invoice and the "Send emails about upcoming renewals" is on, that customer will receive renewal emails?

Yes, and if you set https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/billing/automatic, we handle the email for automatic payment method collection
