Right; so basically Stripe::Balance.retrieve({expand: ["instant_available.net_available"]},..?
I'm still wondering about the mechanism by which failing to do so would break our integration.

That is correct. the available amount between instance payouts and the regular will differ, hence it will break as you might error stating that you might not have enough funds for the instant payout
