just kicking the tires with our new terminal and just testing the api calls - just curious if the terminal can only be assocated with the production or sandbox account?

You should be able to register the reader within a Sandbox even if it's already registered in production
That said, Sandboxes are still in preview. If you run into any specific issues while testing with Sandboxes, I recommend reaching out to our Support team about this: https://support.stripe.com/contact/

Can you be more specific with "registering didn't take"? Do you get an error message ?

i went to the terminal reader to register and added the serial number on the sandbox and it would not allow it to be registered.
