Setup Intents are used to create Payment Methods, attach them to Customers, and optimize them for off-session usage for a single API call. We recommend them both for the optimization of the resulting Payment Method and reducing the number of API calls required.
A quick way to see how this could be built into your integration would be to build a basic integration in whatever programming language you prefer following our guide here: https://docs.stripe.com/payments/sepa-debit/set-up-payment?platform=web&payment-ui=direct-api
