I see this public review feature: https://docs.stripe.com/billing/subscriptions/usage-based/alerts-and-thresholds?dashboard-or-api=api that solves your use case.
You can click on 'Request to join the preview.' if you're interetsted in the feature.
Hmm, isn't that what I've already configured on the subscription?
Though I do see the usage threshold option which I'll definitely pursue.
But I'm curious why the current thing I've got set up isn't spitting out an invoice.
