I think it makes the most sense to use Billing Credits for this via the credit burn down model: https://docs.stripe.com/billing/subscriptions/usage-based/pricing-models?dashboard-or-api=api#credit-burndown-model
Can read more about billing credits here: https://docs.stripe.com/billing/subscriptions/usage-based/billing-credits
So basically you would create a billing credit for the customer up-front to grand them some free usage
Then, you can invoice them again later if they decide to upgrade for them to pay for more billing credits
Ah I see.
I guess if I wanted to attach later on credits to a regular monthly subscription a.k.a x monthly credits I can do that with the invoice paid webhook on the subscription and then attach the billing credits.
Then overusage would have to be packages the customers can purchase right?
Yeah
I understand, thank you!
No problem
Sorry, how does this work with meters?
Billing credits grant the customer a certain amount of free usage. It's applied to each invoice
You report usage via meters like normal
No problem. Recommend creating some test subscriptions to test this out to get a better feel for how it works
And you can use test clocks to advance time: https://docs.stripe.com/billing/testing/test-clocks
Awesome will do.
Thanks for the help
