For that you have to create your own input field, there's no built-in component from Stripe.
There isn't any validation like this doc shows? The formats look like they can be all over the place https://docs.stripe.com/billing/customer/tax-ids
And if I did my own input, how would I know if the customer is in the united states, since that's protected info that's part of the payment element? Would this force me into a two step process of adding the card and then submitting checkout?
I understand. For that you can use the Address Element, just displaying the country: https://docs.stripe.com/js/elements_object/create_address_element
But otherwise, it's best to know the customer's country before displaying your checkout.
i understand but that is definitely part of the payment element. Hmm.. Is there an endpoint to add a tax Id to a customer?
