This Payment Intent was canceled because it had too many confirmation failures. You'll need to void and recreate this Invoice.

Huh, I didn't realize this was a thing, is there a specific # of failures that triggers this, and is that behaviour documented anywhere so I can link it to my team?

There is a variable upper limit on how many times a PaymentIntent can be confirmed. After this limit is reached, any further calls to this endpoint will transition the PaymentIntent to the canceled state.
